  2. The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly is the legislative body that governs the Gilgit-Baltistan region in northern Pakistan. It is the principal law-making institution and holds the power to legislate on various matters within its jurisdiction.

The assembly consists of elected representatives who are responsible for representing the interests of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. The members of the assembly are elected through a direct vote system, where the people of the region exercise their right to choose their representatives.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly has the authority to make laws on a wide range of subjects, including education, health, agriculture, tourism, and local governance. It also has the power to discuss and debate issues of public importance, propose legislation, and scrutinize the policies and actions of the government.

The assembly is headed by a speaker who presides over the proceedings and ensures that the debates are conducted in an orderly manner. The speaker is assisted by a deputy speaker who carries out the duties in the absence of the speaker. The assembly also has various standing committees that focus on specific areas of governance and play a crucial role in shaping legislation and policies.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly is an important institution in the governance structure of the region. It serves as a platform for the elected representatives to voice the concerns and aspirations of the people and to contribute to the development and welfare of Gilgit-Baltistan.

It is worth mentioning that the status of Gilgit-Baltistan has been a subject of debate and there have been discussions to grant it a more autonomous or provincial status within Pakistan. However, as of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, Gilgit-Baltistan remains a semi-autonomous region with its own legislative assembly.
